Q & A Part 2

Q: What is the difference between a Registered Charity, which DABS is, compared to a regular rescue group?

A: Registered charities are registered with ACNC [Australian Charities and Not for Profit Commission] Which is the national government authority that oversees all registered charities in Australia no matter what type of charity they are. Registered Charities are required to submit annual reports and financial information and to have their governing Aims and Objects available on the ACNC website for the public to read.

Only registered charities can apply to the Tax Office for DGR [Deductible Gift Recipient] status which allow donations over $2 to be tax deductible.

An AGM has to be held yearly and 3 broad meetings by Directors have to be held each year also.

Q: So I should not give to my small local rescue or group?

A: No not at all ,many groups start small and grow and become ACNC Registered ,the above information is to explain that there is a difference and that DABS takes their responsibilities very seriously.
